“I’m scared.” Noah admitted, his voice cracking slightly. “I’m scared of what we might find. Of what it will mean. But, you’re right. I can’t just ignore her. We need to find out what really happened. As hard as it may be to face the truth, I have to know.”
Riley stepped closer, placing a reassuring hand on Noah’s shoulder. “I know you’re scared. I am too but Noah, you’re not alone. Whatever happened, we’ll face it together. I promise, we’ll figure this out.”
Noah took in a deep breath and nodded. “Okay, we’ll start with the diary. Whatever she’s trying to tell us is probably there.”
Riley smiled. “I agree. I never did make it to the end. We can finish it together, if you want.”
“I’m sorry for not believing you.” Noah gently squeezed Riley’s hand. “You were right all along and I…” Noah let out a shaky breath. Riley could see the regret etched across his face, marring his handsome features.
“It’s okay.” Riley lay his head against Noah’s shoulder and hugged him tight. “I might have reacted the same way if the roles were reversed. I mean, it does sound a little crazy when you think about it. Not many people really believe in ghosts.”
“Not until one throws a table at you.” Noah chuckled.
“Yeah,” Riley snorted, “our little poltergeist isn’t shy when it comes to getting her point across.”
Noah smirked. “Exactly, and her message was loud and clear. Don’t fuck with my family.”
“No truer words have ever been spoken.” Riley laughed. “So, the diary then?”
Noah nodded. “Where did you hide it?”
Riley cracked a grin. “The last place that Lilian would ever look for it…”
